On Saturday, September 13, 2003 high-profile Tibetan opera singer Tashi Dorjee at Radio Free Asia. Tashi Dorjee was in Washington DC to perform at the Dalai Lama’s Interfaith Service at the National Cathedral on September 11, 2003. Tenor singer Tashi Dorje was born 29th of November 1966 in the city of Chamdo, in Eastern Tibet.
Tashi Dorje has studied singing in the Department of Singing in the University of Beijing's Opera, Dance and Drama Division from 1983 to 1988. In 1998 Tashi Dorje went to Spain to attend the "Francisco Viñas" Singing Competition. while in Spain Tashi Dorje studied with María Soler and Eduardo Giménez at the Conservatory of High Studies of Music of Liceo in Barcelona. He then went to further study with Carlo Bergonzi in Buseto Italy. In 2005 and 2006 studies with Isabel Penago, in Madrid. In 2008 Tashi Dorje was a student at the South Cheshire College in Britain.
Tashi Dorje has performed the world over including in Tibet, China, Sweden, Spain, Great Britain, Italy, Switzerland and the USA and has taken part in various high profile music festivals across Europe. In 2008 Tashi Dorje made it successfully through to the final auditions for British talent search television show The X Factor beating out 7,000 other contenders singing the Italian opera song 'O Sole Mio'.

In traditional Tibetan Opera stories are told through song and dance performers who wear masks. Originating in the 14th century Tibetan Opera is popular in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Tibetan Opera dramas are mainly about Buddhist scriptures, legends and stories praising the good and punishing evil. Tibetan Opera as a folk art has been passed on from elder generation to the younger generation through oral teaching and generally performed in public squares or at monasteries. Modern professional Tibetan Opera troupes were later established and stage performance introduced. Tibetan Opera carries the essence of Tibetan culture and reflects the life and ideology of Tibetan ethnic group and is therefore an important part of their life.
