Yulghun Uyghur Editor

The technical staff at Radio Free Asia must support broadcast in ten Asian languages therefore Asian language support is considered a broadcast function at RFA and word processors and other applications that support Asian languages are included on the Broadcast Utility pages.

The Yulghun Editor is a Unicode-based word processor that fully supports Unicode 4.0 standard and was developed to support the Uyghur language. The Yulghun Editor, this version that was customized for Radio Free Asia's Uyghur Service was written by Muhammad Abdulla.

Based on the Unicode standard the Yulghun Editor by default saves documents in RTF format that can be utilized across multiple platforms, including Windows, Macintosh, and UNIX systems. the Yulghun Editor is also capable of saving document in HTML, DOC, TXT and PDF formats.

The Yulghun Editor is unique in that it can perform text conversions between the Latin character sets, Cyrillic character sets and Arabic-based Uyghur character sets all which are commonly used for the written Uyghur language. It can also do conversions for some widely used non-standard text formats to Unicode, including AlKatip, Duldul, Global Writer and Ilik yurt. Yulghun Editor has over forty standard Unicode fonts in different styles.

Additional features in the Yulghun Editor include a 160,000 word plus application dictionary for spell checking in Uyghur. this is a customizable dictionary which allow users to grow the dictionary with their own entries.

The Yulghun Editor's menus are Arabic based Uyghur and comes with a complete Help section explaining the word processors use and features. The Yulghun Editor works on any Windows based system that supports Unicode.
