Cart Wall was designed to emulate an "in-the-day" four stack analog cart machine. As a multiple virtual Cart Machine Cart Wall is used where instant on-demand play is required for multiple audio files stored locally or in network assessable locations. The four virtual independent cart-machines each have separate transport control, level meters and informational displays and also independently offer advanced features loading playlist and timed start.
Cart Wall is a broadcast specific audio player that was designed and written by RFA to emulate a four stack of analog cart machines. Until the advent of digital technology, in the not so distance past, in the mechanical analog days broadcasters used cart machines for reliable playback of commercials, jingles, announcements, sound effects and music in broadcast. "Cart Machines" once an industry standard played endless-loop tape cartridges.
Cart Wall is a multiple virtual Cart Machine program designed for use in any broadcast situation where instant play access to audio is needed. Cart Wall is four on-screen virtual cart-machines each with 100% independent functionality including; transport control, level meters, time count (up/down) and tarck informational displays.
There are two play modes which each of the four Cart Machines can independently operate in; Single Play Mode and Playlist Mode. Startup default for Cart Wall is "Single Clip" mode for all four Cart Machines. In Single Clip mode only one audio file can be loaded to the Cart Machine for playback.
In Playlist Mode Cart Wall is capable of loading up to four playlist or one per Cart Machine. Each playlist can contain up to one-hundred audio clips. Audio clips that are loaded to a playlist can be any combination of multiple digital audio files including; all WAV files, MP3 files, MP2 files, AIFF files, OGG files and/or FLAC files. Additionally play list clips can reside in multiple locations on the user's PC or network. If the PC can see the location Cart Wall can play it.
Cart Wall is capable of multiple digital audio format playback including:
Cart Wall will allow for an unlimited number of audio files to be loaded to a single cart either as separate file loads or as a playlist loads. Cart Wall will play multiple audio clips simultaneously from all four-virtual decks form any file location local or network. Cart Wall can also browse and play files from the Rivendell library.

Cart Wall can create, modify and organize playlists. Playlist can be played as one continuous event or by separate audio clip. Decks and playlist can be either manually or timed start.

Cart Wall was written in Visual Basic 6 and utilizes the FMOD library for audio API and the MySQL Connector/ODBC for Windows to MySQL Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) API
